Donald Sterling is an idiot

Donald Sterling is an Idiot

By Ken K. Gourdin

As the headline indicates, I have now forsaken my usual measured tone on this Blog for the second time to make a (deservedly, necessarily) blunt statement.  (I wonder if it’s simply a coincidence that, in both cases, the target of my intemperance is a figure associated with the National Basketball Association).  Donald Sterling, owner of the National Basketball Association’s Los Angeles Clippers, apparently has been caught on audio making disparaging remarks about African Americans, telling his girlfriend that he didn’t want her to publicize photos of herself with African American public figures such as former NBA players on the photo sharing Web site Instagram.

Either Sterling is unaware that: (1) with the exception of JJ Redick and perhaps one or two other players on his team, the Clippers roster is composed nearly entirely of African Americans; and/or (2) that slavery as an institution has been outlawed in the United States of America for around 150 years.  Apparently, Sterling expects the members of his team simply shut up and play (the apparently-racist propensities of the team’s owner notwithstanding).

And to think that the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was set to present this guy with an award.

About kenngo1969

Just as others must breathe to live, I must write. I have been writing creatively almost ever since I learned to write, period! I have written fiction, book- and article-length nonfiction, award-winning poetry, news, sports, features, and op-eds. I hope, one day, to write some motivational nonfiction, a decent-selling novel, a stage play, and a screen play.
